About The Author

Victoria E. Bumagin, MSSW, was Director of the Center for Applied Gerontology and Director of Professional Social Services with the Council for Jewish Elderly in Chicago. Simultaneously, she held the position of Associate Professor in Aging at the Graduate School of Social Work at Loyola University for 20 years, until she retired in 1997 to become primary caregiver for her husband of 51 years. She is co-author, with Kathryn Hirn, of "Aging is a Family Affair and Helping the Aging Family." A prolific writer and recognized authority in her field, she has been awarded such honors as "Distinguished Chicago Gerontologist" by the Association of Gerontology in Higher Education; Fellow, the Gerontological Society of America; Elected Officer, Board of Directors: Metropolitan Chicago Coalition on Aging; American Society on Aging; Regional Delegate: National Council on Aging; Editorial Board, "The Gerontologist"; and appointments to the municipal Senior Resources Commissions of Wilmette and Lake Forest, Illinois. Mrs. Bumagin holds an MSSW with Distinction from Columbia University's School of Social Work, and a doctorate in Humanities, honoris causa, from Montay College, Chicago, Illinois.
